Welcome to walking in Kaprun

  • Discover over 400km of marked trails and hikes
  • Ideal for families and adventure-hungry hikers
  • Deep canyons, high-alpine reservoirs, and glacier ascents
Hit the trails on an Austria walking holiday in Kaprun. Sharing over 400km of marked trails with nearby Zell am See, Kaprun appeals to young families and serious hikers alike — with playgrounds near mountain stations, challenging via ferrata routes, and guided glacier ascents up to 3,200m.
Leisurely strollers can head down into the 320m-deep Sigmund-Thun Gorge to pick their way along wooden walkways above dramatic cliffs, or ride the Maiskogel gondola to lush Alps pastures with easy hikes and playgrounds.
For the mountain mad, Kaprun hiking holidays really deliver. Thread through four climate zones on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, view the Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs, or challenge yourself on MOBO 107 — the world’s highest dam via ferrata, and home to the infamous “swing”.

How to get around Kaprun

How our self-guided Kaprun walking holidays work:

Our self-guided trips let you set your own pace, from the length of your stay, to how far you walk each day. But if you’re used to group or guided holidays, you might be wondering how you’ll get around? Well, it’s easy…

Getting to and around town:

Your airport transfer is included with your trip. Once there, you'll find Kaprun village highly walkable. Hop on the Maiskogel lift and rocket up to 1,570m, where Family Mountain, Maisi Flitzer Coaster, a Leisure Park, and the startiing point of loop hikes around MK Maiskogelbahn await.

Getting to your walks and hikes:

Buses can have you at Kitzsteinhorn and neighbouring Zell am See in as little as 20 minutes. And, with your handy Summer Card - buses, Lake Zell boat trips, and even cable cars are all free. Zero sweat, all the views!
Please note: The 3-K K-onnection cable car to Kitzsteinhorn is closed for maintenance from early to late June.
